Employees earn several entitlements throughout their time of employment including vacation leave, earned days off (EDOs), scheduled days off (SDOs) and sick leave days.
Depending on employment type and years of service, entitlements may differ.

Vacation, EDO and SDO
Employees who have previous service should complete the Vacation and Long Service Verification Form to have the time credited to their Vacation and/or Long Service Dates.
In-scope employees receive an earned day off (EDO) every two or three weeks based on assigned hours of work.
In-scope employees may request more information on their entitlement payouts by contacting the HR Service Centre.
Out-of-Scope employees with undefined hours of work receive 12 scheduled days off (SDO) per year.
Out-of-Scope Employees should refer to Carry-Over and Payout Provisions policy and complete the Out-of-Scope Vacation Leave, SDO and EDO Payout Request Form to request that these entitlements be paid out.
Employees looking to add previous service into their vacation or long service hours should complete the Vacation and Long Service Verification Form.

Sick Leave/Pressing Necessity/Family Leave
Sick leave is available for short term illnesses and is typically earned on the basis of 1 ¼ days for each full-time month worked.
Sick leave, pressing necessity and family leave are drawn from the same bank of days and are intended to be used under the definitions of illnesses and emergency, and compassionate leave situations under the SGEU Collective Bargaining Agreement or the CUPE Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Time in Lieu
An employee may request to bank time in lieu of payment for overtime. This time in lieu shall be taken at an accepted time by the employee and manager.

Special Northern Leave
Employees who complete one year of service and are entitled to Northern District Allowance benefits shall be entitled to an extra week's vacation known as the Special Northern Leave.
