Learning Opportunities
Learning and development is a key part of growing a high performing Public Service. The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to providing employees with learning and development opportunities to grow in current and future roles. These opportunities could include new employees learning ins and outs of government, current supervisors wanting to improve their supervisory/managerial skills, aspiring managers looking to develop skills that will help them advance or senior leaders enhancing their media relations skills.
Available training can be found through the My Learning App in PSC Client (watch this short video to get started using the My Learning App). Training is available through a variety of methods including e-Learning modules, online self-paced reading and videos, virtual and in-person training classes. There is also a variety of Learning Paths that will guide you through program opportunities. We encourage you to check out the opportunities currently available and to come back often for information on new programs as they become available.
A Learning Catalogue is also updated three times a year (April, September and January). This catalogue lists all corporate training opportunities available to all employees. The catalogue includes course descriptions, dates, costs and links to register for the training.
Corporate Learning and Development
Learning and development is an important part of professional development and is available to all executive government employees. There are lots of online e-Learning opportunities available to all employees, as well as many other options which are listed below. All of these can be found in our Learning Catalogue, or through the online My Learning App in PSC Client.
New Employee Orientation is available to all employees new to the Government of Saskatchewan. This series of online e-Learning modules will provide insight into some of the overarching principles that influence public service employees.
New Manager Orientation is available to all new managers in the Government of Saskatchewan. This series of online e-Learning modules will highlight the importance and principal responsibilities of the manager's role in the public service.
Parliamentary Program for Public Service provides a firsthand opportunity to observe the workings of government, to speak to individuals serving the Legislative Assembly, and to participate in discussions with members of the Legislative Assembly and the speaker.
Coaching – Managers and Supervisors workshop prepares leaders in the Government of Saskatchewan to coach with greater intention, empathy and effectiveness. Participants will explore foundational coaching frameworks including powerful questioning, motivational techniques and trust-building approaches. Guided by evidence-based practices, this session integrates skill-building exercises and peer feedback to support strong coaching relationships and long-term team growth.
Communication enhances the ability of public sector professionals to communicate clearly, strategically and with influence. Participants will learn to use structured frameworks to craft compelling messages, tailor communication to diverse audiences and support sound decision-making. Through practice activities and feedback sessions, attendees will build confidence in both written and verbal communication across high-stakes settings.
Effective Leadership is designed to equip current and emerging leaders in the Government of Saskatchewan with the critical mindsets and behavioral tools necessary to lead with purpose, clarity, and empathy in today’s complex work environment. Rooted in proven psychological and organizational research, the workshop offers structured frameworks, reflective assessments, and hands-on activities to help participants elevate their personal and team leadership effectiveness.
Strategic Orientation engages managers or high-level supervisors by exploring the challenges in operationalizing government, ministry and division strategic planning while thinking about risk and managing your day-to-day responsibilities such as staff needs is a significant task.
Developing High Performing Teams is designed for leaders who want to improve collaboration and results. This workshop focuses on building teams that are aligned, resilient, and accountable. Participants will explore the foundations of high-performing teams, including trust, alignment, autonomy, and psychological safety. Through guided exercises and real-world tools, leaders leave with strategies they can immediately apply to support stronger culture, better performance and more adaptive team dynamics.
Managing Change focuses on navigating change through effective communication, as well as recognizing and addressing emotional responses.
Inclusive Leadership focuses on creating a work environment where everyone feels valued, respected and included. Participants will learn how to foster a culture of belonging and equity within an organization.
Conflict to Collaboration focuses on identifying the causes, approaches, framework and escalation of conflict. Participants will learn practical communication techniques and how to raise issues constructively.
Customer Service Training focuses on techniques for providing good customer service and exceeding expectations. Participants will learn how to handle difficult situations with customers while gaining confidence in their role as a service professional.
Supervisor Development Program helps supervisors develop the skills and competencies required in their current roles. The program is a comprehensive learning path aimed at closing knowledge/skills gaps identified for SGEU in-scope competencies for supervisors.
Manager Development Program helps managers develop the skills and competencies needed to lead high performing teams. The program is a comprehensive learning path aimed at closing identified learning gaps in leadership and management competencies for middle managers.
Managing the Employee Lifecycle is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that walks managers or supervisors through onboarding and probation, work and learning plans, meetings and coaching, as well as recognizing and rewarding talent.
Mandatory Training
The Government of Saskatchewan has identified six essential training courses that all employees are required to complete. These programs include the following:
Respect in the Workplace is an online training course that helps create a healthy and inclusive workplace for all employees, improve employee recruitment and retention, and improve service to our clients and citizens.
Indigenous Awareness Training is a training available through your ministry, as well as offered through the Public Service Commission (speak to your manager to determine which offering you should register for). It offers information on appropriate terminology, demographics and socioeconomic issues, treaty negotiations, Metis history and current issues, the Indian Act, Truth and Reconciliation, Aboriginal Rights and Indigenous law.
Incident Reporting Policy Training is an e-Learning course that introduces all employees to the roles and responsibilities of OH&S incident reporting requirements for the Government of Saskatchewan.
WHMIS 2015: An Introduction is an e-Learning class that teaches the basics about the impact of chemicals in the workplace. Participants will gain an appreciation for how to start to work with WHMIS 2015 regulations.
Conflict of Interest Training is an e-Learning module that provides an overview of the Conflict of Interest Policy and how it applies to the public service employees.
Substance Use and the Workplace is an e-Learning module that ensures all employees are aware of and understand the requirements and expectations respecting substance use and the workplace.
Senior Leadership Development
Senior Executive Orientation is for new Executive Directors, Assistance Deputy Ministers and Deputy Ministers. This blended training program includes online e-Learning modules, as well as in-person training. The program provides an overview of government structure, strategic direction, functions and central support services. This program is offered multiple times per year and information on registration will be sent to eligible participants.
Leadership Development Program (LDP) is offered through the University of Saskatchewan. It is a highly interactive and experiential program that teaches participants the proven leadership practices and skills they need to know to achieve their leadership potential. The program focuses on key leadership practices that improve performance, understanding leadership and modelling the way to lead effectively with influence.
Enhancing Management Talent Program (EMT) enhances the effectiveness of high-performing managers in the current roles and strengthens the core competencies required for more senior management roles. The program delivers a single, consistent, service-wide approach to leadership and management development that improves transferability of skills and retention of talent within executive government. Participants of this program are selected by their ministry.
Executive Education Program (EE) develops the knowledge, practical skills and strategies required to be successful in leading the public service to excellence and innovation in citizen-centered service delivery. This program is intended for MCP 10+. The program provides learning opportunities that will give executives a solid grounding in the leadership and management skills they need to thrive in demanding, fast-paced environments. Participants of this program are selected by their ministry.

Johnson Shoyama Graduate School (JSGS) provides Policy Training programs.
Public Sector Workshop Series is aimed at policy employees who would benefit from greater skill development in areas related to policy development and those responsible for policy program development and delivery. Workshops address topics such as evaluation, policy analysis, preparing briefing notes, and comparative analysis. The JSGS Policy Workshop Brochure is now available.
Excellence in Public Sector Leadership is a four-month training course aimed at new leaders in the public sector. This course is built around four core themes, Leading Self as a Public Servant, Leading Others as a Public Servant, Public Service Excellence, and Achieving Results in Public Service. The Excellence in Public Sector Leadership brochure is now available.
