Key Responsibilities of Position:
In the role of Senior Consultation Advisor, you will play a crucial role in helping to fulfill government’s Duty to Consult and implementing Saskatchewan’s First Nation and Métis Consultation Policy Framework. To accomplish this, you will build relationships and work collaboratively with provincial ministries, Crowns and agencies, First Nation and Métis communities, industry, consultants and other organizations.
You will also be responsible to:
• Develop and provide advice on engagement plans;
• Provide day-to-day policy advice and implementation support to officials across government and senior management and support to the administration of the First Nation and Métis Consultation Participation Fund;
• Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate policies and strategies to consult with First Nation and Métis communities;
• Develop relationships with First Nation and Métis communities, industry, and other organizations to facilitate participation in planning and policy development across government ministries and agencies; and
• Deliver all internal training and external outreach related to government’s duty to consult, which may involve travel to rural and remote Aboriginal communities.
The successful candidate will have the following:
• Knowledge of Saskatchewan First Nation and Métis history, political structures at the local, regional, provincial and national levels, and current social and political issues, protocols and the principles of reconciliation;
• Knowledge of Aboriginal and Treaty rights, social trends, policies and programs as well as cultural practices of First Nation and Metis people in planning and policy development;
• The ability to acknowledge perspectives, identify key issues and provide strategies for action along with strong conflict facilitation skills;
• Ability to engage and work collaboratively with diverse groups that have different perspectives and expectations, including other ministries, Crown corporations and agencies, First Nations, Métis communities, industry, consultants and other organizations to build positive rapport and working relationships that contribute to achieving government’s goal and objectives for consultation;
