Purpose
To provide all public service employees with time off to vote in federal, provincial and municipal elections.
Policy
Employees will be provided with time off to vote in federal, provincial and municipal elections in accordance with the applicable legislation.
Federal General Elections
Every employee who is an elector shall have three consecutive hours for the purpose of casting his vote. If the hours of employment do not allow for such three consecutive hours, the Permanent Head or designate shall allow the employee additional time for voting, without loss of regular pay, as may be necessary to provide those three consecutive hours.
The hours provided for voting shall be granted at the convenience of the Permanent Head or designate.
Federal By-Elections
The above will apply only to those employees who are electors in the constituency in which the by-election is held.
Provincial General Elections
Every employee who is an elector, shall have three consecutive hours for the purpose of casting his vote. Municipal General Elections and By-Elections
Employees will not be granted time off to vote in either general municipal elections or municipal by-elections.
